FLASH FLOODING HITS AWUDOME, ACCRA.
On Thursday, March 13, 2024, around 7pm, a downpour swept through Awudome in Accra, highlighting the devastating consequences of illicit dumping in drains. Flooding occurred as debris-clogged drains prevented rainwater from flowing freely, damaging properties and infrastructure. Illicit dumping also contaminated rainwater, posing environmental and health risks. The stagnant water created breeding grounds for disease-carrying insects, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Proper waste management practices are imperative to mitigate these issues and protect the environment, public health, and infrastructure.
